Thought I'd post this here instead of making a new thread.

Wanted to run some ideas past you lot.

1) Revive #Square

This is mostly for nostalgia's sake, and because we lack a shoutbox these days. #Square was the old mIRC chatroom on Galaxynet. If we can revive that, we might be able to pull somewhat of a crowd. This, in turn, means some techhead who still comes here could work on a new FantasyScript for ease of use.

PROS: Something new and fancy, and all the cool kids do it

CONS: Means people might not use it, and mIRC newbs will probably require tech support

2) Mass annoyance of members

Good thing about forum software is the mass email function. Let's abuse this and send out a mass email saying "we like members. Especially ones who have already signed up. You should come here sometime".

PROS: A friendly reminder always helps.

CONS: May end up being ignored due to email settings of people, and seeing we have well over 1000 members, mass email may take awhile.

the 1st one we can do anytime we like, just need to find a nice network to sit in and be happy, the 2nd one is fine just gotta make sure we don't seem like a spam email.

For the second one all you have to do is say:
"Hello (x),
Tricks here, the System Admin at FS wanting to send you a quick email blah blah blah.  You have registered here and our records show you haven't been around much.  Please come back and say hello.  blah blah"

As far as #Square goes I can't see it being of much use. I used to visit quite a lot back in the day and very few people who posted on the forums went there. If I remember correctly it was more of a hang out for banned members. The only thing it was really used for was staff meetings. And you're right, "mIRC newbs" would definitely need tech support. Would a better idea be to have a chat room that opens up from the main page? It would be much less hassle.

We did. Nobody used it.

when we had a shoutbox, nobody used the forums.

Good old catch 22.
