I got an email through not long ago inviting me to register for the beta of Final Fantasy XIV, currently I have no idea if I have managed to get a place in the closed beta, but registration is still open to everyone, so if you're interested hop over to http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/ and pick your country and hit the Beta sign up button.

Hope one of us gets a chance.

I disagree sir, some classics are on PC in which you cannot do on a console.

I might give it a try if I get some free time but at the moment that seems to be elusive.

I want to try out the BETA though I am not sure if I will be able to play it through my Uni network as I can't play any other P2P games such as LBP, CO, or WOW, but I can play COD so hopefully FFXIV will have servers like COD otherwise I might be screwed altogether and not be able to play it at all which would make me sad =/

IMO PS3 is a better game-playing piece of technology than the computer... and the xbox.

Feh. Not interested, really. For my computer is old and my experience with FFXI (or rather, the admin side of things) kinda left a sour taste in my mouth. Plus I have City of Heroies, WOW, FFXI and EvE to keep my MMO fix at bay,.

Wouldn't you be able to play it at home? Or are you living on campus?

Ignoring the fact that a high-end gaming PC could kick the crap out of anything the PS3 brings to the table Wink

PS3 = 250
Ultimate Gaming PC = 2,899

Kick the crap maybe, but the PS3 can always kick the Ultimate PC's in the nuts on price Tongue

Well apart from the ram the PS3 fairs well against some of the good pc's out there, plus the added extra of a blu-ray player to boot, but lets not start a console v pc war Tongue

Yeah, a HIGH-end PC, how many people actually own, or have the cash to purchase one of these elitist machines? =o

Plus, it has been proven that devs themselves generally don't own the equipment to work on top of the range graphics cards for the PC and the ones most commonly used aren't as good as the ones currently in the PS3.

The interfaces on this gen of consoles are so advanced now that they are almost considered computers, I can't remember whether Sony won the right to label it's console and computer in the courts (something to do with taxes), but I don't see why not.

That's fair play my friend. I just prefer them because I like RTS and games like fallout2 and baldur's gate. Trying to do that on a console would not be a kindness.

I'm going to throw a thought  in the console PC thing. I use both and always will. The one thing I will say to defend the PC though is that it can be easily upgraded compared to a console. Still, they both have their strengths and they both have their weaknesses.

I never said it didn't. Hell, I quite like the PS3 (and I'm an Xbox owner! Aren't I pre-programmed to hate the thing or something?), but if we're talking tech. A PC is just as viable a games machine as a PS3.

I'm living on campus and so am totally reliant on their frickin' internet source... =/

That has to suck... So do they block the connection to the PS Network? or is the service just the epitome of weapons-grade crap?

Lol. You'd be surprised. Besides, you don't need a LOT of money to get something that can be used for games. If you're looking at futureproofing for the next couple of years, that's where you might be looking at the big bucks... (says the person who hasn't upgraded for like, 3 years or something).

If you want elitism, go to a BYO LAN party sometime... Holy crap.

Well that's it. Where the PS3 is a dedicated console where there's a standard set of specs, there's limitless amounts of combinations of PC rigs out there. I'll give consoles that over PC's: Convenience. That and a lack of World of Warcraft Tongue

Don't get me started. I'm still amazed at what the current gen can do and what's continually coming out. Even the Xbox which -admittedly, is rather average compared to the PS3 constantly hits me in the face with something that makes me go "wow, that's totally awesome".

What's more awesome is that -seeing as video games are kinda accepted as "the norm" now, and not a passtime for complete and utter nerds, there's something that suits everyone out there, and you're not as limited as you were when it was just Sega and Nintendo.

Anyways, I've waffled on enough about nothing to do with the topic. I'll solemnly swear to keep it a little more on track! Tongue

So... who here would actually be interested in FF14? I remember when FF11 came out and there were mixed reactions. Most of them to do with "ZOMGS! I DUN WANA PLAY FF INTERNET GAME! ;____;!!!"
