OMG

I watched Sony's press conference at E3 live yesterday, and just after the Final Fantasy XIII trailer they announced FINAL FANTASY 14!!!
Coming in 2010 also, and EXCLUSIVELY for PlayStation 3!
And... it's ONLINE!

Meaning: Looks like they are planning to go big on this online version of FF, compared to XI.
Although I have never tried XI, so I don't know what I'm talking about here.

See the press conference here: http://e3.gamespot.com/press-conference/sony-e3/
You really should, new motion sensor system was a huge wow-factor. My dreams would be using this inside FF XIV.

Thoughts?

Well, one problem I've heard from someone else regarding FFXI is as follows:

You and a party have just beaten a monster before it destroyed you all completely, leaving it's treasures for you to grab and rejoice with, right?

WRONG!!!

When you're 1 hit away from death each, some douchebag rogue/assassin can slaughter your party, and not only take YOUR items, but also LOOT the monster you just killed, effectively slapping you in the face and running away like a coward, all while getting away with it.

If FFXIV has this as well, might as well steer clear, unless you're willing to put in the hours to make an uber character that an army can't even stop. :/

I haven't tried FFXI as I don't really play MMO (I think that's what they're called?). The only one I have enjoyed before is EVE but I don't like the concept of paying monthly unless I'm rich then I wouldn't care.

However most companies and series are going this way.  I mean take Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI, Knight of the Old Republic 3 has been announce that it will now Knight of the Republic and now a second one from Square Enix.

I personally like a story with my RPGs in which has an ending. I could be wrong but I just can't see this having a plot to go with it so that is my reserve about it. However I am looking forward to FFXIII and all its delayedness.

I also probably not fussed about FFXIV for the sheer fact I have a 360 which I prefer so there we go.

P.S

On a side note, I have never in my life before had to put in my birthdate to watch a conference video? Joys of the world.

lol, let's not turn this into an XI flaming topic.

birth date, just pick something random above age 15/18 Tongue
it's the trailers that contain gore and violence, ya know? Tongue

I do agree massively with Maverick on the fact that all RPGs should have an end, linear storyline or not.
Just thought I'd fill you guys in.

Since I have to have every final fantasy... I will try it at least =)

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't just dismiss it now as I have never played them, but I wouldn't go out my way to get them if you see what I mean. Maybe I would like them but who knows.

Yeah I know about the gore, just wasn't expecting was why it was more surprisng I think.

Um, no.

PVP is different in FFXI compared to other games.

as for XIV, I'll pass.

I lost all interest in the series after FF9. =\

In other news, MGS is coming to the 360. =D

Unfortunately, you'll never get to play as Solid Snake. you'll get the feministically designed Raiden though. :p

Though I've heard little on what else FFXIV might have to offer. just seems like FFXI all over again, but in hi-def. :/
